๐Ÿฃ Crochet a Tiny Spring Chick – Easy Amigurumi for Beginners

Spring is in full swing, and with Easter just behind us, I couldn’t resist sharing one of my favorite little makes of the season: a tiny crochet chick! ๐Ÿฅ



It’s cute, beginner-friendly, and takes less than an hour to whip up. Whether you’re making it as a gift, a desk buddy, or just for fun, this little spring chick is sure to bring a smile.


๐ŸŒผ Why You’ll Love This Project

  • Minimal sewing (yay!)

  • Uses very little yarn – great stashbuster

  • Perfect for beginners dipping into amigurumi

  • Makes a great addition to spring decor or Easter baskets


๐Ÿงถ What You’ll Need:

  • Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in:

    • Yellow (main body)

    • Orange (beak & feet – optional)

  • Hook: 3.5 mm (or size to match your yarn)

  • Stuffing: Fiberfill

  • Safety Eyes: 6mm (or embroider with black thread)

  • Yarn needle

  • Scissors


✨ Stitches Used (US Terms):

  • MR – Magic Ring

  • SC – Single Crochet

  • INC – Increase (2 SC in one stitch)

  • DEC – Decrease (SC two stitches together)

  • SL ST – Slip Stitch

  • CH – Chain


๐Ÿฅ Pattern: Tiny Spring Chick

Body (in yellow):

  1. MR, 6 SC into ring (6)

  2. INC around (12)

  3. (SC, INC) x6 (18)

  4. (2 SC, INC) x6 (24)
    5–8. SC around (24)

  5. (2 SC, DEC) x6 (18)

  6. (SC, DEC) x6 (12)

  7. Start stuffing

  8. DEC around (6)
    Fasten off and close the hole. Weave in end.


Beak (in orange):

  1. CH 2

  2. SC 2 in second CH from hook
    Fasten off and leave a tail to sew onto the chick’s face.


Wings (Make 2 in yellow):

  1. MR, 4 SC into ring

  2. SL ST to close. Leave a tail.
    Sew each to the side of the body (row 6–7 area).


Feet (optional, in orange):

  1. CH 3

  2. SL ST in second and third CH
    Repeat for second foot and sew underneath.


Assembly:

  • Attach safety eyes between rows 4–5, spaced about 5 stitches apart.

  • Sew the beak centered between the eyes.

  • Add wings to each side.

  • Optional: embroider tiny blush cheeks or eyebrows for personality!
